Manchester Airport, is located to the south of Manchester and to the west of Stockport. The easiest access to the airport is off the M56 which is an offshoot of the M60 Manchester orbital motorway.

AIRPORT HISTORY FACTS

Manchester Airport was formerly called Ringway Airport, Ring way having taken over from the previous airport facilities at Barton in the 1930's.

The airport pioneered the use of piers to keep passengers under cover at all times, and travellators to aid movement within the airport buildings.

Over the years, the runways have been extended to now facilitate long haul size aircraft.

HRH Princess of Wales opened the Domestic Terminal in 1989 and the Duke of Edinburgh opened T2 in 1993. This brought the capacity up to 20 million a year.
